There’s been a change at Art Corps!

artcorpssd : February 16, 2016 7:38 pm : Blog, News, Notices

After 27 years we are officially a Non-Profit. Surprised?  Actually, we always looked and acted like one.  Kathy Peterson and Paula Tarango started our adventure in 1988 to give their kids all the benefits of an arts education in a public school system that had no budget for art.  That’s how our unique, volunteer-based, parent organization-funded program got its start. Since then we have developed more than 100 unique lessons for students from TK to 8th grade, and currently partner with 800 parents like you to reach almost 10,000 students every year. With our tiny staff we have managed to create a steady flow of new lessons through the years while constantly improving our teaching methods and adapting to our schools’ academic and logistical needs.  We also realize the need to ensure the future of Art Corps in all our schools for the long term and extend our reach to more children. Our vision is that every child benefits from an art education. Studies show that hands-on, developmental programs like Art Corps give students:

  • better creative thinking and problem solving
  • improved reading and language skills*
  • stronger mathematic skills*
  • increased social skills and motivation to learn.*

A quality arts education empowers our children to change our world.  And we ALL benefit. As a non-profit we will now be able to provide on-line tools to help our schools with their Art Corps fundraising efforts as well as bring the benefit of arts education to disadvantaged populations right here in San Diego. We are particularly interested in connecting with employers in our area and would love to show them how supporting Art Corps positively impacts the community, their employees and families. Connect with us here.

Learn more about our plans as well as the benefits of art in education by signing up for our newsletter at the top of the sidebar on the right.
